Happy August, everyone! It is going to be an exciting month in the lives of A, R, and L. In two weeks, R is going backpacking in Glacier with his brother Evan while L and I visit Grandma and Grandpa in California, and we will celebrate L's 1st birthday, my 25th birthday, AND our 4th wedding anniversary!
Yesterday was my first official day of work at the sorority house. I don't start cooking until the 25th, but yesterday I spent five hours organizing, de-junking, and cleaning the kitchen and pantry (and it's not even halfway done yet!). I found packaged food that expired in 2004. Yech.
On the bright side, there was an enormous pile of clothes in the basement that my boss told me was just going to the DI and I could have whatever I wanted. And let me just tell you, castoffs from girls who pay $700 a month in rent/dues (granted, it includes food and stuff, but for comparison's sake, I paid $125 a month in rent when I was single) can be pret-ty excellent.
I made out like a bandit with four shirts, three sweatshirts, a pair of gigantic movie star sunglasses, a messenger bag with Bob Marley screenprinted on the front, AND a two-DVD History Channel documentary on Pearl Harbor, for R.
Happy weekend!

Sweet! I love cute, free clothes and stuff!
I can't wait to hear about your adventures cooking for a bunch of single girls!
I am so excited for you to start this job. I'm sure you will come home with stories of drama that will be fabulous. So I want to hear a menu of what you are planning.
Your post reminded me of living in Northern Idaho. Sigh. For two reasons. #1, I lived in a house with a cook for my first year of school, and we LOVED that woman. She would come in on her off hours during finals weeks and make a buffet of snacks (hot large pretzels, with sauces, cheesecake, cookies, I could go on, but... Actually, it's her well stocked kitchen that got Stephen and I hitched...kind of. She kept a carton (large...bucket) of huckleberry pie ice cream in the freezer for whenever, and I used it to lure him over to visit. hee hee. #2, when I managed apartments after getting married, the stuff left behind was finders keepers. It was a blast, and got me started on some great culinary adventures, as I got some nice bake ware. Enjoy the position!! I'm sure you'll be great. I almost envy you.
