I got my sewing machine deep-cleaned a couple of weeks ago, and have been in stitchery heaven ever since I got it back. There's something really hypnotic about the rhythm of machine sewing. Rumble, rumble, clip. Rumble, rumble, clip.
I have a bunch of long patchwork skirts that I used to wear a lot in high school. I don't wear them much anymore because they're long and narrow and generally awkward, but then I was thinking last night about how I wished I had more knee-length, light, breezy skirts for summer. And the more I thought about it, the more I thought, yeah, I can do that! So this morning I took some scissors to one of those old skirts, cut some triangles out of the bottom, and sewed them in. Voila! Knee-length, light, breezy skirt for summer!
And on Saturday, I made a new sling for L. I have a Moby Wrap that I used when she was teeny-tiny, but it's too hot for summer and the older-baby positions don't work very well for us, anyway. So I made a Hotsling knockoff (instructions here). It's more lightweight and really easy to make, and no, it isn't 100% comfortable, but it works. ANYTHING works with L as clingy as she has been lately. And as you can see, she's pretty stoked about the new arrangement.
More projects on deck! Washcloth baby bibs, layette gowns for the ward humanitarian project, more skirt alterations, an apron (I want to use this pattern because it reminds me of my Mom's apron, which is both cute and utilitarian)...so much cool stuff to make!

You. are. awesome.
Fun projects! Where did you take your sewing machine for its cleaning? Mine is overdue for one by about 10 years.
Great idea on the skirt. As for the wrap in my post, I used 100% cotton gauze. No sewing, I just bought some that was 60 wide, and cut down the middle...5 yards long. It's super thin, and works wonderfully in this humidity. Plus, it dries fast, and I got 2 for cheap ($15 for the fabric=$7 each!)
