I Heart Blogging, But...

I'll start posting regularly again soon, I promise. Christmas was great, Lizzy is great (13.2 pounds and 25 inches as of today!), R is great, the snow is not great, but everything else is great. I love life.

Resolving to Resolve

It's a little early still, but I'm starting to think about New Year's resolutions. And because Jentry just inspires me so dang much, I'm thinking that this year, I want to find more ways to live more sustainably. This fabulous web site, along with Martha's recent article about turning T-shirts into shopping bags is my starting point. Any other bright ideas?

Small Things

Nothing monumental to report today. Lots of little things to report, though, like...

Lizzy's first giggles! I read somewhere that a Native American tradition states that a child will be like whomever witnesses their first laugh (Does that mean trouble for me?). For now, they sound more like little coughs, but they're starting to lean towards real laughter.

Great pictures of the residents in the Alzheimer's unit from Thanksgiving. Apparently they made pilgrim and Indian hats out of construction paper -- and paper turkeys in the shape of their hands -- and the pictures are awesome. Think kindergarten for 90-somethings. I've decided that when/if I get old, I'd rather not know about it. Ignorance is bliss, right?

My Christmas shopping is done. I love the Internet.

There are so many great books being published! The other night at Borders, I feasted my eyes on this collection of snowflakes under a microscope (it'll make your eyes boggle) and Mark Bittman's new cookbook, How To Cook Everything Vegetarian. I showed it to R while saying, "Dear, this book is FAB," with a meaningful look. Not that I need any more cookbooks, but hey, too many cookbooks never hurt anyone. That I know of.

I'm reading this amazing book called Enrique's Journey. In it, a journalist traces a boy's journey (true story) from Honduras to find his mother in the United States. It is heartbreaking, eye-popping, jaw-dropping stuff that won two Pulitzer Prizes when it first appeared as a series of stories in the LA Times. I had no idea how much crap people go through to get here -- and how very desperately they want to come.

R is my superman. Today he kept Lizzy for an extra two hours (usually he brings her to me halfway through my shift at work) AND brought me a bear claw, to boot. Now how can you beat that?

Christmas Love from Us to You

Yay, Christmas! I hope everyone is enjoying the season. Here's me and Lizzy by the Christmas tree.

My last issue of the Martha Stewart magazine in the subscription R got me for Christmas last year came today. It was a little bittersweet, but dang, what a good issue...instructions for how to make reusable shopping bags out of T-shirts (you should check that out, Jentry) and the coolest photo crafts EVER. Rock on.

Trying to Keep Up with the Fetters? Now You'll Need a Bidet

Sing hallelujah, sista!! We've discovered the secret to cloth diapering: an attachable bidet with the water pressure of a fire hose. This thing rocks.

I think that's it for now...no real news here today.

Tally ho!

New Traditions

Ahoy! Happy Hannukah to you (tonight's the first night). R, L, and I went to Smith's last night and picked out a tree in RECORD TIME. We literally bought the first one I picked up, paid for it, threw it in the trunk, and had it in the stand, lit up, and decorated in no time.

Of course, that was after R threw part of the cheap Voldemart stand across the room out of sheer frustration. He was pretty mad, and I was trying soooooo hard not to laugh...finally I just couldn't help it anymore and burst out laughing, and he did, too. All's well that ends well.

We're starting a new tradition: an ornament for each child on Christmas Eve. I went and picked out a gorgeous angel ornament made in Kenya at the Gloabl Village store today. Score.

Besides that, our traditions include potato soup on Christmas Eve (I swear R told me that was a tradition in their family growing up, but he now says it wasn't), and....well, L is about to explode and I'm in the library, so I better finish. Any tradition suggestions out there?

Hey, I can lift up my head all by myself!

Not only do Daddy and I match, but I'm also wearing my first-ever pair of SHOES!

Not so sure about being quite so matchy with Dad...
